About the instrument
This instrument has an even, mellow, slightly bright sound. The back is formed from two pieces of quarter-cut maple, marked by medium-narrow-width flame that slants downward from the center joint. The wood of the ribs and scroll is similar to that of the back. The two-piece spruce top has straight, medium-narrow, even grain. The instrument is covered with a warm golden orange varnish over a light gold ground. The violin is in excellent condition.
It bears a printed label that reads: "Donald McKinley Los Angeles / California Faciebat Anno 1981"
