Atelier Negri Roma violin, Strad model | Metzler Violins
Atelier Negri was founded in Cremona in 2001, when the Negri Company operated both a violin-making workshop in Piazza Zaccaria and a violin shop on Corso Garibaldi, in the heart of the world's most renowned center of violin craftsmanship.
From the very beginning, their mission has been to create exceptional string instruments for advanced students by combining the highest standards of European manufacturing with outstanding tonal performance. Their concept brings together German precision with the artistic vision, craftsmanship, and centuries-old traditions of Italian lutherie.
Originally, the instruments were built in the white in Germany and then brought to Cremona, where they underwent graduation adjustments, varnishing, polishing, and professional setup. Today, twenty-five years later, Atelier Negri continues this tradition from Rome, working with selected workshops in Germany, Spain, and Hungary. These highly specialized workshops produce instruments in the white using carefully selected tone woods, following their strict construction standards.
Once in Italy, each instrument enters the final stage of its creation. The instrument in the white is reworked by refining the wood, adjusting the plate thicknesses, and modifying certain aesthetic details. They are varnished using traditional Italian techniques and premium materials, professionally adjusted, tested by experienced musicians, and individually set up to achieve their full tonal potential.
The result is a collection of authentic European instruments that combine outstanding craftsmanship, beautiful Italian finishing, and exceptional sound quality, while remaining accessible to young musicians.
